Instructions for Ad-aware & Spybot Search and Destroy

Ad-aware: Double click to open the program. When the program first opens it checks it's definition files to see if it is up to date. If not, the program may say "Your definitions are ?? days old. Would you like to check for updates now?", click on the OK to check. When it finds the new definitions it will say "download and install?" click on OK. After the file has finished retrieving the update click on "finish". You are ready to begin the scan. Click on the start button in the bottom right corner and then click on next. The system will now start scanning for all the spyware in the system. This can take a while depending on the size of the hard drive and processor speed. Once finished it will display the results of what infections it finds. Click on next to display those results. Generally we check mark all the boxes that come up. That is important, if the boxes next to the results are not checked, the system will not remove anything. Once checked click next and it will confirm that those objects will be removed and ask you to continue, click on OK. The objects will either be deleted or quarantined depending on what actions it thinks are best. Thats it for Ad-aware. Do this as often as you wish, continued use will help keep your system clean and running fast.

Spybot Search & Destroy: Basically this program runs the same was as Ad-aware but just looks a little different. To check for updates click on the "Search for updates" button in the update category on the left side. This program gives you several different places to download the updates from, feel free to choose any. Put a check mark in the box next to the updates to download and click the "download updates button at the top. Once the updates have been downloaded, a green check will be next to the update. We are ready to start scanning. Click the Search & Destroy button at the top left hand side of the screen then click on check for problems. It will scan the system, and the after the scan it's the same as Ad-aware. Make sure there is a check in the box next to the infection result to remove it. Click the "fix selected problems" button at the top. It then asks if you want to continue, click yes. The scan is complete. Same as Ad-aware feel free to scan as often as you wish.
